Four Regencies agreed to the establishment of a new province
Four regents of North Lampung, West Lampung, Way Kanan and Tulang Bawang have signed to agree to the establishment of a new province. The Regent of North Lampung, Zainal Abidin, explained that the plan to establish a new province has long been thought of. “We are trying to get things fixed and asking other regents to agree to a new province establishment,” said Zainal Abidin in Bukit Randu, last Friday afternoon.
North Lampung Regency has made an effort to discuss the establishment of a new province with 6 regencies. Four regencies have signed the agreement, while two others—Tulang Bawang and Mesuji Regencies—have not signed the agreement.
The agreement of 6 regencies have to be reached to qualify the establishment of a new province as stated in Government Regulation No.78 Year 2007, article 8, point a that states that the establishment of a new province shall at least have 5 regencies/cities. “To meet the qualification as stated in Government Regulation, a cross-regent team shall be appointed. Who will be the team leader does not matter,” said Lampura Regent.
West Lampung Regent, Muchlis Basri, explained that targeted government span of control in the establishment of a new province is crucial in developments. Way Kanan Regent, Bustami Zainuddin also stated that the establishment of a new province has become collective needs. The central government has so far distributed “the same size of cakes” to all regencies, regardless of varied population numbers among regencies. The regency that has bigger population is certainly a loser.
