A patient named Bramantyo, 45, died on the 18th of October 2016 on a dialysis machine at one of private hospitals in Bandar Lampung, Lampung, Indonesia. Commission V of Local Parliament held a hearing with representatives of Bumi Waras Hospital in Bandar Lampung and urged that representatives of the hospital own up to their mistakes that resulted in the death of a dialysis patient due to the electricity cut off. A member of Commission V Mr. Yandri Nazir strongly urged that the electricity failure occurred purely due to their negligence.
According to Managing Director of Bumi Waras Hospital, sudden death in dialysis patient on October 18th, 2016 was not caused by the electricity cut off. He admitted that the electricity was cut off at the time but they have their own generator to back up electricity run by PLN (State-owned electricity company). “Within two seconds, the dialysis machine was on again,” explained the director dr Arief Yulizar, Managing Director of Bumi Waras Hospital as quoted by Tribunnews Lampung. He also explained that Bramantyo, a dialysis patient suffered from complications. The dialysis treatment on October 18th, 2016 was his second treatment.
However, according to the patient’s elder brother Mr. Enrico, who accompanied his brother during the treatment in the hospital, the dialysis machine died and no one in charge was at the room. He called one of the officials on duty but no one picked up the phone. He believed that sudden death in dialysis that happened to his younger brother Bramantyo was caused by the electricity cut off.
